Waxing Tips

  • What To Do After Your Wax

To deter ingrown hairs I recommend exfoliating 2-3 days post wax and continue to exfoliate in the shower 2-3 times per week in circular motions clockwise and counter-clockwise to slough away dry and dead skin cells and be sure to moisturize every day. Waxing exfoliates the skin and the pores and hair follicles are open and exposed. To reduce the chance of external “bad bacteria” entering into your sensitized skin and potentially causing any irritation, it is very important that for 48 to 72 hours “Post Wax” you treat your skin with care.

Hair grows in different cycles. It can generally take 3-4 waxes before all the hairs are growing in the same cycle, which means longer lasting results for you.

  • While Your Skin Heals Avoid The Following

    1. Stay out of the sun for the first 48 hours after waxing. Use SPF 50 sunscreen for at least 2 weeks.

    2. Avoid swimming (any bodies of water like pools, hot tubs, ocean, lake and river) for 48 post wax.

    3. Body waxing REQUIRES regular exfoliation (start after the first 24-48 hours).

    4. Avoid the sauna and hot yoga for 48 hours post wax.

    5. Wait at least 72 hours before getting a spray tan.

    6. Be selective with your skin care (stick with gentle, fragrance-free body products for 48-72 hours post wax. Avoid heavy creams, oils, deodorants and heavy makeup).

    7. Take showers instead of baths for the first 48 hours after wax. Avoid hot water.

    8. Sorry, no sexy time for the first 48 hours after wax. Friction is not your best friend and bodily fluids can lead to infection.

    9. Opt for loose clothing for 48 hours post wax.

    10. Avoid intense workouts (friction, bacteria and heat can create irritation) for 48-72 hours post wax.

    11. Sweating (if you do sweat, be sure to clean the area/bathe as soon as possible) for the first 48-72 hours post wax.

  • What To Do If Your Skin Reacts

We take every precaution to minimize or eliminate negative reactions as much as possible, however some people may have certain reactions to waxing (acne breakout, skin rash, etc.). The following are some post care tips and recommendations on what to do/use in the event that your skin should have such a reaction. Please consult your physician, dermatologist, or esthetician if you have any questions or concerns about any of these topicals we recommend before using anything.

Red and Itchy Bumps – you may lightly apply a Cortisone Cream

Whiteheads – use an antibacterial with Glycolic and/or Salicylic Acid, or a Benzoyl Peroxide product

Ingrown Hairs – Start to Exfoliate 2-3 days after your wax with a body brush, exfoliating glove/mitt, or Glycolic & Salicylic Pads (the glycolic acid will penetrate the follicle keeping it free of oil and debris and the salicylic acid will slough off the dead skin allowing the hair to grow thru)

Soreness on Delicate Areas – Aquaphor, Aloe Vera, and/or Hydrocortisone cream can be used for redness or inflammation.

As always, please feel free to call or email us immediately with any other questions you may have!
